Diet
There is no secret to loosing weight and eating properly. Most people know what foods are healthier to eat. The real problem is showing people how to eat most nutritiously for their bodies without eating so many foodstuffs and calories as to prevent their weight loss (rather, fat loss). Additionally, though some foods are nutrious and low in fat, they are often calorically dense and will prevent weight loss - what I call eating for weight loss versus healthy eating.
I design programs for my clients to follow based on their activity and lean muscle mass. Lean muscle, physical activity, and brain activity are the prime users of energy. All food stuffs is broken down through three primary pathways: into energy, into cellular building material or enzymes, or simply excreted.
Use this rule to help you understand your food, but remember are exceptions to every rule. The exception to the following rule is this: most food stuffs contain each of the substrates.
Proteins originate from meat or are by-products of meat (soybeans are the most popular exception)
Fats are nuts, oils or melts.
Carbohydrates are everything else.
This next list are the other essential nutrients needed for life. Though they don't provide energy, they are essential for the proper functioning of every cell, thus the body and life.
